Our library has an extensive collection of DVDs for toddlers. I was perusing the aisle today, looking for something to satisfy Pumpkin Pie's latest Elmo craze, when lo and behold there was a whole shelf of DVDs with the word "potty" in the title. Some for girls, some for boys, some for girls and boys. I got one called Go Potty Go: Potty Training for Tiny Toddlers. I chose that one because of the words "tiny toddlers." I thought it might appeal to a younger toddler. It does, I suppose. I don't really have anything to compare it to.
Anyway, we watched it today. It is 20 minutes long (perfect!) and filled with cutesy songs that I'm sure I will have memorized soon. It associated going potty with being a big girl, and taught proper hygiene, such as wiping and washing hands. It also made a big deal about how fun it was to pick out big girl underwear. Pumpkin Pie, however, was a little distracted by the fact that a duck and bear were featured. I'm sure she'll catch on to the word "potty" next time we watch it, since they say it about 5,038 times during the 20 minutes. The video is due back to the library in three weeks, and I know repetition is good for little kids, so I plan on showing it quite a few times before we have to return it.
I'm glad there are so many potty videos out there. It'll keep at least me entertained for awhile. And I may need some entertaining by the time this is all over.
