...and I'm already losing my confidence. Or patience. Pumpkin Pie has been great about sitting on the potty whenever I tell her to. She gets really excited, like we're doing something super special. Except if I ask her to sit on it right before a bath. I haven't been able to convince her that she's not sitting on the potty instead of a bath, just before the bath. Maybe I'll stop telling her about the bath.
ANYWAY. My first mistake was googling potty training tips. Everything I read either said that you should wait until the baby is, like, 3 years old, or that your baby can be trained in three days. Well, we've had a week of potty time and no deposits. Granted, last week I only put her on it about twice a day, just to get her used to it. I think that worked out pretty well. She knows where I want her to go when I say "let's go potty."
Today I put her on the potty about 7 times, and nothing yet. All of a sudden I'm expecting her to know what to do. And I know I'm expecting too much.
I think I might try something a little drastic. We really don't have anything going on this week, so starting Wednesday, I'm going to put her in her training pants and underwear. All day. She's in cloth diapers, but they are really good diapers and they keep her completely dry. I want to see how she reacts to being wet. I am mentally preparing myself for the laundry and messes. And I plan to take her every hour those days. I don't really know how I'm going to handle naps, but I might still do some reading.
And if it doesn't bother her to be wet for a couple of days, then I'll probably back off and try again next month. But we'll still watch going potty DVDs.
