I'll be honest: I'm not really into non-fiction. I know a lot of people who are, and they seem to be very intellegent and articulate, which is why I thought I'd try my hand at reviewing a non-fiction book.
Thomas Nelson Publishers sent me Kaleidoscope: Seeing God's Wit and Wisdom in a Whole New Light by Patsy Clairmont in March. I read the first chapter, then set it down for a couple of months. Ms. Clairmont really is a very funny lady. She has a whimsical writing style. But I just couldn't get into it. Then in May I finished up the Bible study book I was doing and felt I needed something to tide me over until I got a new one. So I picked Kaleidoscope back up and decided to just read a chapter a day. And from then on, I looked forward to my chapter each day.
Kaleidoscope takes you through a journey of the book of Proverbs. It is definitely not a hard-core theological study, but something softer and easier for those of us whose minds have turned to mush since college. I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a devotional type book on the book of Proverbs. It was the perfect book for in-between Bible studies for me. It's also the kind of book that you could hopscotch around in, if you're looking for insight into certain verses. Also important to note that this is definitely a book for women. Since Patsy Clairmont is a Woman of Faith speaker, she truly understands the heart of women and knows how to apply Scripture to what women face today.
Two thumbs up. Five stars. If you're trying to decide between "yes" and "no," choose "yes."
Thomas Nelson Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as a part of their blogger program called BookSneeze.
