Book Review: Life Application Bible Studies: 1 & 2 Thessalonians/Philemon

I do MUCH better with my personal Bible study if I have a book to follow. So when I got the chance to review a Bible study book from Tyndale House Publishers, I snatched it up like it was the last brownie.

Actually, there were several to choose from. I can't tell you what the other ones were, but I chose Life Application Bible Studies: 1 & 2 Thessalonians/Philemon. I am a Bible college graduate, so all of them sounded interesting.

This book is really great. It has the entire books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians and Philemon in the book in the New Living Translation, along with notes and introductions and outlines and maps and get the idea. It's extremely helpful, because some of the questions ask some detailed things about the verses, and it helps to have more than just a Bible handy. It is a complete study resource.

I really appreciate the study portion as well. It is set up for both individual and group study. The questions are set up in 5 segments: Reflect on your life (questions to introduce the area of your life the passage will address), Read the passage, Realize the principle (in depth questions about the verses, including historical context), Respond to the message (questions to clarify how this passage can affect your life) and Resolve to take action.

I would call this a medium Bible study. Some Bible studies out there are good, but full of fluff to simply make you feel good. Some are so heavy and deep that you need a Bible professor sitting with you to wade through the jargon. But this one is just right for a normal person. It looks a little deeper than the surface words of the scripture, and really helps you understand that these ancient words are still life-giving today.

I am looking forward to doing another Life Application Bible Study. I know I'll have just as hard a time choosing which one to do next.

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a free copy of Life Application Bible Studies: 1 & 2 Thessalonians/Philemon as a part of their blogger book review program.
