I’ve always been a big fan of silly, especially in children’s lit. If I try and trace my desire to write back as far as I can, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs might very well be ground zero.
I know this book was made into a movie, but I haven’t seen it yet. I’m a little leery to see it, because I’m afraid it will be too different. The book is just so incredible. Not only is the story so fun to think about, but the artwork is fantastic. Especially when all hell has broken loose, and the streets are flooded with soup and people are running for their lives from gigantic, bone-crushing donuts.
I desperately want to write a seriously silly book for kids someday. The problem is I will always have this book at the back of my mind. I truly believe that this is one book that everyone should own. (Hint hint, family members! I actually do not own a copy of this book, and it's a travesty. Christmas is coming...)
