Time for Gem #3 from Robin Jones Gunn. (Or, Gem #21, if you count every single book in each one of the series I’ve already mentioned.) In the Christy Miller series, Christy actually spends a lot of time thinking and writing letters to her future husband. Even while she was dating Todd, she never knew if it would be him, so she prayed for the man, whoever he might be.
I kept a pretty good journal during my high school and early college years, so I well remember the angst that girls go through as they are waiting to see how their romantic life is going to turn out. I wasn’t terribly good at it, but I did try my best to channel the anxiety into prayers for my future husband. I always clung to Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Any time I felt anxious I tried to pray and then trust that the peace of God would indeed guard my heart.
I wish I had had Praying for Your Future Husband back then. It is quite literally a how-to on prayer for that very thing. It’s full of prayers and encouragement that you can easily claim as your own. While I don’t need to pray for my future husband anymore, I do need to pray for my daughters’ future husbands. And I hope I can pass this book onto my daughters when they start to feel that angst themselves.
