You can pretty much be sure that anything that comes from Francine Rivers is going to be gold. So if you haven’t read her Mark of the Lion series, you won’t be disappointed.
The series takes place shortly after the ascension of Christ, when Jerusalem is destroyed by Rome. The Jews themselves are killed or scattered across the known world as slaves, and the Christian movement is small, fledgling and forbidden. In the midst of all this is Hadassah, a small Jewish Christian who miraculously survives the slave march to Rome. The series also follows the story of Atretes, a German chief who is captured and made a gladiator for the enjoyment of the Roman population. The stories are filled with faith that is tested in the worst possible ways, yet filled with the hope of peace found in Jesus. Excellent reads, all of them.
