Dr. Leman is quickly becoming one of my favorite parenting gurus. I like to think that’s saying a lot, given all the parenting books I read. He’s real and funny and full of common sense.
In It’s Your Kid, Not a Gerbil, Dr. Leman addresses the very prevalent culture of over-scheduling your kids. Somehow we’ve all decided that our kids need to pursue every single opportunity out there. And that we’re bad parents if we don’t let them try every sport, fine art or language that is available in 21st century America. The fact is, that kind of scheduling is actually detrimental to a child’s development, and can seriously cripple what the child needs most: time with their family.
